On the Tenth Anniversary of my dear friend and colleague Russ Conway's very sad passing, I would like to say that he remains constantly in our thoughts.
Russ was always a major part of my life going right back to the 1950's when we first met at the London Palladium. Being pianist with the John Barry Seven at the time, I felt a great rapport for this wonderful pianist and his unique piano artistry.
There were many occasions when we worked together and, apart from all of the tracks we cut for various albums, I was honoured to be asked to play the secondary piano on a song called "Pepe". Russ often joked....."As much as I enjoyed playing with you, Les, I still can't see what your contribution was!!"
We often joked about that recording, but when you view his outstanding career, there has never, ever been such a talented performer and great commercial pianist as our own Russ Conway.
June and I miss him tremendously. Russ will always be in our thoughts.
My sincere best wishes to all Russ Conway fans throughout the World.
As ever,
Les Reed OBE, FCL (London)
